Neuropsychological Assessment Process

What is Neuropsychology

Neuropsychologists have specialty training in how the brain develops and understanding learning and behavior in relationship to an individuals functioning in areas such as attention and concentration, memory, executive function, processing speed, reasoning, perception, coordination, behavioral functioning, language, mood, and personality. Neuropsychologists also work closely with parents, teachers, other medical specialties by providing comprehensive information on learning and behavior. Results of the neuropsychological assessment may assist in diagnosis, educational planning (i.e., IEP, 504 accommodations), medical treatment, and rehabilitation.

About Us

Dr. Leishman, a native of Salt Lake City, received her Ph.D. from The University of Utah in 2007 from the Department of Educational Psychology.  She has over 20 years of experience working in pediatric mental health. Her training specialized in children and adolescents with a variety of disorders, but specifically school-based learning and behavior disorders such as dyslexia and ADHD, autism spectrum disorders and traumatic brain injury.  Before entering clinical practice, Dr. Leishman worked four years as a school psychologist in Davis County School District. Dr. Leishman completed her pre-doctoral clinical internship at Primary Children’s Hospital in 2007 receiving specialized training in more severe psychopathology, working with children and adolescents across the continuum of mental health care. Dr. Leishman then completed a two-year post-doctoral residency in neuropsychology at Primary Children’s Hospital.  Dr. Leishman remained at Primary Children’s Hospital as a staff psychologist with the residential and day treatment program for adolescents for nearly 10 years, before leaving to join Wasatch Pediatric Neuropsychology for the past 12 years. In 2020 Dr. Leishman worked as a clinical director for Matt’s Place, a day treatment program for children and teens with psychiatric needs and autism. Dr. Leishman is excited to have started Pediatric Neuropsychology of Utah to continue her passion of helping individuals and families reach their potential.
